Great thermometer

Rating

This thermometer works great. You do need to sync the transmitter and reciever each time but there is nothing to it. I remove the batterys after each use and when you put them in the next time all you do is push the reset buttons. It reads the same as my manuel thermometer and the range seems to be just fine for me. I can be out playing horseshoes or visiting with guests and it always has been in range. I prefer to use my on temp settings as the pre programmed ones seem to make things a little done.

Did not work

I got this as a gift for my Mom. Bottom line, three competent adults could not get it to function properly. We used both reset buttons, tried fresh batteries, even took it outside to see if some other electronics were interferring with the signal. The thermometer readings are consistently up in the 200-500 degree range while at room temperature. We're terribly dissappointed and looking for a different brand.

Is there a quality remote digital thermometer produced today?

Rating

Apparently not. After reading horror stories about other models, I chose this one. This has it's issues like the rest. When starting the receiver can not find the signal. This requires you to reset the receiver and transmitter. Even then, it loses the signal once in a while from 15ft away (and through 1 wall).

The trasmitter send a signal for only one probe, unlike some models. The one sensor it came with crapped out after only one month. This was only after four uses at temperatures well under the rated maximum of 392F. There is no excuse for this. I had to buy another on Oregon's website, and pay them $10 shipping. They probably made $9 profit right there.

Nice item, but not for the the digitally challanged.

I got this for my parents,it's fairly simple to use but they don't use it.There over 75 and don't like anything that's not real simple to use.So I suggest you don't buy it for anyone who can't handle modern technology. It talks to you in a loud and clear voice, which is good for the hard of hearing. If I cooked I would use it myself because of all the great features.

Oregon Scientific AW131 wireless grill thermometer

Rating

I bought this through Amazon.com and shipping as fast. However this thermoter was not well made, as it has limited instruction manual. When we first turn it on, the wireless receiver could not syn with the probe. There was no instruction on how to make it syn. It doesn't have 365/7/24 customer service. Fortunately, I went back on Amazon and found some reviewers mentioning resetting the wireless with the probe will make it work, and we did just that. Thank you for those of you out there posting this piece of important info.

Also, the set has very limited cooking temperature for something as common as beef (rate, medium, medium rare and well) and it's kind of disappointing. I am sure this thermometer can do a lot more if their instructions are written in a more detail format.

For those of us who likes to color co-ordinate our kitchen, this thing only has red color. I just don't know why red. Will silver or grey be better or much more easy for our eyes?
