The plot of Failure to Launch is utterly implausible, yet the movie is thoroughly fun. Tripp (laid-back Matthew McConaughey, Sahara, Dazed and Confused) is a 35-year-old man who still lives with his parents (Kathy Bates, Misery, and ex-quarterback Terry Bradshaw)--and they aren't happy about it. Eager to get him out of the nest, they hire Paula (Sex and the City's Sarah Jessica Parker), a professional motivator who feigns relationships with boy-men so that their improved self-esteem will lead them to leave the nest. But Tripp's not the usual insecure shut-in Paula's used to, and as sparks fly, Paula finds herself losing her professional distance. This sort of set-up drove classic screwball comedies of the 1930s and 40s; once you embrace the absurdity, the movie zips along with a surprising balance of humor and bittersweet shadings. Failure to Launch gets a huge boost from the supporting performance of Zooey Deschanel (Elf) as Paula's housemate Kit--part sourpuss, part tomboy, and entirely sexy and winning. McConaughey and Parker have enjoyable chemistry and carry the movie well, but Deschanel is an oddball romantic-heroine-in-waiting. Really hits home, have two kids of my own, Nice to know I'm not alone
Very Fun to watch--definitely worth your time.
I don't know why this is rated less than 4 stars and some really sucky movies are rated 4.5. It is not the absolute max in romantic comedies, but it's up there with the best. If you go along with the plot, there are some really great laughs to be had in this movie. I don't even like sarah jessica parker or whatever her name is, but she did a great job in this movie--super acting by the whole cast. Great lines in here. The Star Wars part is hysterically funny.

the case that came with this dvd was clear. it wasn't the original case and this should have been stated in the product info. i would not have paid as much as i did for just a dvd and a clear case.

loveable characters
I enjoy this movie more and more when I watch it. You either love it or hate it like opera. There are subplots and the parents are precious. I wonder if this movie isn't based on some real life situations since most of the movie has characters that are similar to people I have met in real life. Even I have had to move back in with my parents for a while. Face it, who doesn't want to get naked if the opportunity presents itself. Who hasn't had thoughts of wanting to get rid of pesky animals? Who doesn't know people who are geeky, aggressive, silly, unpredictable? In other words, plan to watch this movie with an open mind and have fun with it.
