Just a quick note !

Just wanted to say that ,with reference to Shauns' review above ; 'Hit It' was released on the U.S. only c.d. version of 'What Is Beat?'
Yes I know this makes me look like the saddest trainspotter on the block ,but - hey,I love this band ! (the U.S. cd also has some choice rarities and live stuff which isn't on anything else,so it's worth tracking down).
As for this latest compilation ; you're much better off getting all three original albums because there really isn't a bad track on any of them.
And ,if you can find it ,the 2cd version of the 'B.P.M.' compilation as it has loads of the original 12" mixes on ,and they rock !

(If Nothing Else) A Good Place To Start...

This is a bit of an odd compilation. I'd actually ONLY recommend it to those who are looking to purchase their very first Beat album and are tempted by the price.
What don't I like about this CD? There are only 12 tracks. The disc clocks in at just over 40 minutes! Quite a waste of potential CD space. No liner notes, either.

What do I like about this CD? 12 ABSOLUTELY LOVELY songs. The Beat released three studio albums between the years 1980-1982. They split in '83. The Beat never recorded a song I didn't like. They're one of my all time favourite pop groups. This CD contains almost all of the Singles. For some odd reason their debut, Tears Of A Clown isn't included. Album track, Sole Salvation (from the lovely 1982 album Special Beat Service) appears to have taken its place. To this day, the flop 1981 Single, Hit It!, has NEVER appeared on CD.

Social protest anthems, love songs, reggae, calypso, punk, pop and 60s soul; The Beat were a great British pop group.
If you've no idea what I'm on about, buy this CD!
