Really needed it

Anyone going to Maui need a really good map. Too bad Amazon. com didn't have it before our trip. Order early.

A must have travel guide

Excellent guide book to Maui - we used it most recently in February 2008 to travel the entire Hana Highway (even past earthquake damaged areas!) and on the West Side perimeter road as well. Spot on in its descriptions of things to see and do - great guide on places to park and giving a quick heads up on some spectacular areas around blind turns. (parking is a commodity along the Hana as much is almost single track road). This one traveled in the vehicle and backpacks everyday.

Readers may want to consider color Hana Highway book

As one of the authors, I thought this update may be of interest to readers.

For individuals who have expressed concerns over the gray scale images and the small photos within Maui - Mile by Mile 2nd Edition, this issue has now been addressed & corrected. A FULL COLOR supplementary guidebook has been produced for the Hana Highway & Beyond portion of the book (which is an update to Chapters 1 & 2 of the Maui - Mile by Mile book). This new guidebook also features many additional locations not mentioned in the current Maui book. It also contains much higher quality maps. 'Look-Inside' is available for this updated guidebook here on Amazon.

Also, while Maui - Mile by Mile 2nd edition only covered the three most popular drives on the island, the 3rd edition of the guidebook will provide details on the entire island. The book will also be printed in color. Your concerns about this have not fallen on deaf ears.

Easy to follow!

I read many of the reviews on the site before I bought this book. I just have to say, I'm glad I only listened to the good reviews! This book is perfect for the Road to Maui! Who cares about the pictures not being great quality - why are you looking at the pictures when you're in Maui to see the real thing! The authors rating for each stop is perfect - we loved exploring and hiking to the best waterfalls! I highly recommend this book to anyone wanting to see the best of Maui!

helpful but unnecessary

Chances are this isn't your only Maui guidebook. If it is, you'll probably do fine with it. The book is small and light, which is a plus, but lacks color photos which are so often necessary in Maui. Honestly, we barely used it. Maui Revealed was much more useful and had all of the same info.
