Great Practice Sessions, Poor Visuals
I agree with most everyone here, this book is great! It has several daily yoga sessions you can practice, according to time and what you need for that day. The notations and instructions on each pose is direct and clear. I felt the only down side of the book was the illustrations. They have stick figure people demonstrating the poses, and it does not clearly illustrate the detail of the human body. I felt the visual demonstrations were as equally important as the detail of the written instruction, especially for me as a beginner. I wish I could have given it a higher rating because the rest of the content was great.
Very good
This book is great when you need to get a practice into your day. May not be for beginners. I am very familliar with yoga positions, so the stick figures are perfect, can be mostly fit on one page so you dont have to flip.
If you're like me, a city girl, practice is often thrown throughout the day when I can - mornings, evenings - classes are a rarity for me.
So no matter how much time you've got, this book can give you something to do.
Om Yoga
I love this book! The only thing that could have been better is if it came with a cd with music and someone walking you through the moves. A few of the poses are a little difficult to figure out based on the picture. It's still a wonderful book. I love that the exercises are broken down into such manageable workouts!
Good directions
So far I've only done the 5 and 15 minute routines. I like it a lot though, there are nice little stick figures to follow and then more detailed directions and drawings a few pages after if you don't know exactly what to do. So far I am very happy with this book!
Have you found yoga books to be overwhelming?
Then this book may be for you. I've tried book after book about yoga. After all, yoga sounds so great. But I've never been able to successfully get through even one routine. Either the routines are WAY too long for me (consider the book of "beginner's yoga" I bought that began with an hour long routine) or the descriptions of the poses are so detailed and intricate that I cannot hold the information in my head. No one can throw either of those accusations at this book! I mastered the 5 minute routine, and I've moved on to the 15 minute routine. For once in my life, I feel some measure of success with yoga. Yes, the poses are not described in minute detail, but for those of us who tend to get bogged down in minutiae, that is most likely an advantage. I'm figuring that an attempt at the pose is a good beginning. If I manage to master this entire book, perhaps I'll look for a book with all the detail to fix the way I'm doing the poses. Until then, some exercise is better than no exercise!
