More than anything, Steve Duncan dreams of racing his huge, wild stallion, Flame. The horse is untrained, but incredibly fast and Steve just wants to show him off. When two strangers show up and offer to make Steve?s dream a reality, Steve cannot believe his luck. But soon he realizes that a professional racetrack is no place for an unbroken stallion.

For science fiction lovers
This was my favorite Walter Farley book, and I read them all. I did not know that I would like science fiction, but after I read the book, I was an sf fan. The idea that there could be colors I'd never seen before fed my imagination. To parents of girls: I didn't care that Walter Farely's protagonists were usually boys. The sense of dizzying joy when riding a horse is apparently universal!
Crossover for Horses and Scifi
I loved both horses and space travel as a child and loved scifie. Walter Farley did a wonderful job of combining the two. His charactors were facinating and his descriptions of Flame's reins sent shivers up my spine. A wonderful book for both science fiction and horse lovers.
Not Very Realistic Puzzling
I finally forced myself to finsh reading this book and it was really weird It was confusing and not realistic And wats with the aliens that screwed the whole book up Cant flame and the boy have normal adventures I wish i hadnt bought this book i could have really saved the money but i did enjoy the parts about the boys friendship with flame
WORST OF THE SERIES
I am a HUGE black stallion fan, but this was a shame to the series and the author. aliens? come on, get real. And a little far fetched with the crazy man coming after them. DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK. You will be wasting your money.
captivating and imaginative
I read this book not too long ago. I had not heard about the book before hand and did not read the summary of it on the back cover, so I had no idea what to expect from it. What I got was something completely unexpected. I thought I was going to hear about Steve Duncan taking Flame from the island to race but in a similar format as in the first novel, The Black Stallion. When the extra-terrestrials showed up I was happily surprised. This is the only novel in which Farley ventures into the world of science fiction. I think he did a marvelous job with it although I do agree with the other reviewer that it is somewhat difficult to understand and may not be and easy read for younger children like many of the other books in the series have turned out to be.
