George Bovell III wins Olympic bronze in 200m Individual Medley
Filed under: Other Sports|Trinidad and TobagoOfficial results from the 200m Individual Medley are in from Athens, and George Bovell III from Trinidad & Tobago has won the bronze medal behind Michael Phelps in record time, and Ryan Lochte!
George apparently did not take part in the 50m heats today in preparation for his pet swim finals. George has come a long way and has won Trinidad & Tobago's first Olympic medal in Athens 2004!
Bovell is now the first CARICOM athlete to medal in Aquatics/Swimming EVER! Excellent reward for all the hard work that he put in leading up to this.
American swimmer Michael Phelps led from start to finish in the 200m individual medley on Thursday, giving him his fourth gold in Athens.
Phelps, who is on course for a record eight medals at Athens, took charge in the opening butterfly leg and never risked a serious challenge as he charged home in an Olympic record on 1:57.14 minutes. His teammate Ryan Lochte was strong enough in the final freestyle leg to overcame a fifth place after breaststroke and gave the US a one-two finish, just ahead of Trinidad's George Bovell.
Lochte, who shared gold with Phelps in Tuesday's 4x200m freestyle relay, clocked 1:58.78 and Bovell 1:58.80, with Hungary's Laszlo Cseh -- the 400 individual medley bronze medallist -- just adrift at 1:58.84.
