A Celebration Of Musical Greats

The Appleton V/X-sponsored Living Legends concert held at Kings House last Thursday was a true celebration of the contribution made by music greats to the development of Caribbean music. From the Mighty Sparrow to our very own Byron Lee and the Dragonaires, the night was one for the unmistakably grand living musical legends. From the outset, the show was sure to be a success, with guests pouring in well before the start of the show. By seven, the well-manicured lawns of King's House were covered with full chairs and guests, ripe with anxiety.

Starting off with some of Jamaica's best, Keith Lyn, Pluto Shervington, Ken Lazarus and Ernie Smith thrilled the audience with pulsating hits of yesteryear. Pluto reminded the crowd of the potency of 'ram goat liver' while Ernie Smith brought out the chills with 'It must be a duppy or a gunman.'
The show was well choreographed and organised.

Presentations were made to all the performers for their outstanding contributions to music and their participation in the Living Legends Concert. Prime Minister PJ Patterson, who was among the many dignitaries in the crowd, presented the award to the Mighty Sparrow, while Ambassador Courtney Walsh was more than pleased to hand over an award to David Rudder, who evoked emotions with 'Rally Round the West Indies.'

Associate sponsors Supreme Ventures Limited, Air Jamaica and RJR all had attractive booths, but it was the Cable & Wireless Mobile VIP Lounge that made the night complete for many. Expertly designed by Francis Mais, the lounge was inviting and had the company colours brightly displayed for all to see. Not only attractive, the air-conditioned lounge, was royally decorated with blue and silver beaded chandeliers hanging from the draped canopy, and tables and chairs covered in fabric.

The food was exemplary and was prepared by the talented culinary staff at Red Bones Caf?. Tara Playfair-Scott, marketing communications manager at Cable & Wireless, was on hand to ensure that all went well and that guests were comfortable, relaxed and well fed. Premium liquor and drinks flowed all night and the delectable desserts were mouth-watering, to say the least. Other C & W executives were seen chatting and mingling with guests including Ian Neita, Collin Smith, Camille Facey, Robert Whitehorn and Director Pat Rousseau.

Also spotted in the crowd, Saleem Lazarus, Daryl Vaz, Dwight Moore and Sharon Millwood, Maxine McDonnough, Wade Marsh, Julian Robinson, Don Creary, Roy Davidson, Wayne Boodasingh, as well as the Governor-General, Sir Howard Cooke and Lady Cooke, Prime Minister PJ Patterson, opposition leader Edward Seaga and his wife Carla and a host of others.

Close friends and family members hurriedly threw together a wonderful surprise birthday party for automotive mogul, Dwight Moore last Sunday at his lavish Upper St Andrew home. Behind the fabulous affair was none other than Mr Moore's significant other, Sharon Millwood, who in no time put things in place for a perfect evening. Upon entering the home, it was hard not to notice the personal touches she added to make the place beautiful and comfortable for all.

The courtyard and pool were transformed into a party setting adorned with balloons and birthday paraphernalia, while the patio housed the cake and other niceties. The buffet table, which was never short of food, was all stocked when guests started to arrive. From true Jamaican dishes like Escoveitched fish, rice and peas and barbecued chicken to a taste of Italy with pasta and tossed salad to dishes with an Oriental flair like the stir-fried beef. The food was delicious and had guests milling back and forth from the buffet to get seconds and thirds. The bar was equally popular.

Old friends of the birthday boy like Rory Chin and Ken Jackson could not miss being a part of the gathering. Other well-wishers included his dad, Charles Moore, who had lots to say, his sister, Andrea Moore, his children Shari, Dominic and Shawn Moore, Elsie Pennicook, Joel Fearon, Oral Gayle, Don Creary, Gerald Ford, Captain John Ford, Garwin Davis, Melissa Cammock, Kevin Watson, Diani Gordon, Jerry and Sherry Ann McGregor, Brian Campbell and Dr Stacy Brodie.
