Fireman Capleton lives up to his name - Zen Nightclub - March 30 2005 - Trinidad

Jamaican reggae artiste Capleton on Wednesday at the Zen Nightclub proved that idiotic yet chicly delivered propaganda can make enslaved believers of even the most sensible of people. As he spewed his racial slurs, calling for fire to destroy a certain race of people because he considered them to be devils, persons fitting that very racial profile were cheering the artiste on with hands lifted and lighters burning in the air.

The controversial entertainer, who has been banned from performing in Britain and certain parts of the United States because of his stance against homosexuality as well as his racist views, literally rocked the audience at Zen with a fiery near two-hour performance. Appearing on stage just past 1 a.m. accompanied by his Prophesy Band, Capleton opened his set with the popular single "Cowboy Town."

After a verse of the song he looked out at the audience and declared, "Meh bun all batty man, Sodom. Meh bun the Pope, the Queen of England and meh go to Washington and bun George Bush," causing the audience to erupt into an explosive series of cheers, whoops and cat calls. After performing his popular "Fireman" chant, Capleton again shouted out, "Fire pon chi-chi man," before settling into "Pure Sodom," which he followed-up with "In Her Heart."

Capleton again came to the lip of the stage to speak to the audience this time rambling on about his being the man appointed by Salassie to cleanse the world of all evil people such as, "Pope John Paul, George Bush and Queen Elizabeth. Reggae music will slew Babylon," he shouted as he launched into "Small World." He again began to talk to the people, this time saying, "This is not a man's world, nor is this a woman's world. This is a Man and Woman's world," before launching into another song.

After performing "Your Kingdom Is Falling," followed by "Tour," Capleton began to talk even more this time saying that black people are still being oppressed by Babylon. "We as black people have been brainwashed of our culture. Me a bun Shakespeare, Napoleon, George Washington and King James. All dem a batty boy," he declared before performing "Dangerous."

Although Capleton delivered an energetic performance and was for the most part spot on with his delivery, there was really no synergy between himself and his band members. The audience was being energised by their familiarity with the songs rather than what was actually taking on stage. Remaining true to his arrogant nature, Capleton even heaped fire on the owners of the very club that was playing host to him, saying that he was going to, "bun down Zen."

At one point he shouted, "Where all batty man life end? Club Zen," he answered himself. "Where the most money Spend? Club Zen" Capleton shouted as the audience cheered him on. Capleton continued to hold his own on stage until 2.43 am. During his set he performed songs such as, "That Day Will Come," "Real Hot," "Never Share (Burn Dem)," "Sunshine Girl" and "Who Yuh Callin' Nigga."
