Infiltration - Assasin

At first listen to dancehall deejay Assassin, you might think 'well its another one', but if you take the time to 'check check' out his new album, Infiltration, you will realise just how 'versatile' a lyricist Jeffrey Campbell truly is.
With a solid 17 tracks, along with the bonus song, Joe Grind, Assassin has delivered a hard hitting album on his first attempt. Yes, despite the depth and versatility of his lyrical content, this is actually the 23-year-old's first album. In fact, unlike some local artistes, Campbell has taken the time to create 13 brand new tracks for the Infiltration.
The addictive bass line and drum beat of 'Wandering Mind,' immediately gets your attention, as the thought provoking lyrics delivered by Assassin perfectly compliments the track.
"...Mi a wonder if emancipation/ Is a misconception/An mi a wonder if di process of an Election/ Is just an elaborate Deception/An mi a wonder if A.I.D.S is an Infection/ Or a biological Weapon..." deejays Assassin on Wandering Minds.
Although a few might recognise the melancholic bass vocals of T.O.K's Bay-C in this track, most wouldn't know that it was actually produced by the T.O.K. member.
Assassin again boasts his lyrical prowess, skillfully playing on the names of a series of U.S. rap artistes in the introduction of I'm A Hustla, which also features an impressive string ensemble in the impress.
Proving his versatility, Youths Well Cold, features Assassin riding a slower 'one drop' rhythm with Freddie McGregor, who he also 'bigs up' along with a host of other foundation reggae artistes in Respect Due.
In Da Club is a humorous salute to those who are in debt, but who still have fun and party with their money, instead of stressing themselves to repay (many can relate). With a laid back beat, complimented by electric guitar strums, this song has the potential to be an album favourite for many.
Showcasing 'Red Square' at its best, Big Mix, is a comedic medley of the crew's members as they lyrically battle over a girl. The high energy track features members of the crew, including Spragga and Briggie Benz.
Assassin has also added five of his dancehall hits to the album's line-up, much to the delight of those who have been fans of the artiste from he appeared on the dancehall scene. These are As A Man, Idiot Thing, Don't Like You, Girls Gone Wild, and, Step Pon Dem.
With his first album installment, Assassin has maintained his title as a 'lyrical genius,' and as he has already garnered so much respect in the dancehall arena, one can only hope he will continue to produce good music in the future.
