World Clash 2005 - New York - October 8 2005
Before the clash, the numbers were drawn. Mighty Crown drew #1, Bass Odyssey #2, Immortal #3, Desert Storm #4, Sentinel #5, and Black Kat would play last, since they are defending champions ....
Round 1 (15 Minutes)
Mighty Crown kicked off the dance with Simon on the mic, greeting Brooklyn people, telling them the Mad Japanese dehya. They opened the clash with not much hype, but getting some decent and small forwards off of tunes like Turbulence's Notorious. They also got one of their bigger forwards for the night when they played Gyptian's "Serious Times" on dub. They played "Longing For" from Jah Cure, "Rise To The Occasion" from Sizzla, and Bascom X, Capleton, and I-Wayne on the Hard Times. Nothing really unexpected, and nothing really special. They got some pretty nice forwards. "Decent" first round.
Bass Odyssey came in with Worm telling the people they don't know him, but that Bass Odyssey is still Bass Odyssey and that he is going to make his name tonight. Bass Odyssey took control over the first round by rinsing dubs on the FRESH riddi from Bounty Killer, Richie Spice, and got nuff forwards. They unleashed Little Hero, and got wicked forwards off of some Capleton and Bounty Killer tunes on the Showtime riddim. Bass Odyssey got a better crowd response for their first round than Mighty Crown.
Immortal came in and opened up with a dubplate rendition John Legend's "Ordinary People," which did not go well with the crowd. They began getting some boos right after they played this ... They played Maxi Priest's "Worldwide," and got some small forwards off of some typical Bushman tunes (Rise I Up This Morning, Fire Bun A Weak Heart), on the HYPOCRITES riddim. They drew one of their larger forwards towards the end of their round with Hopeton Jame's "In The Mood." They got another nice forward off of Bounty Killer's "Sound Ago Dead," which they played on the Stalag. Not a very good round, but could have been worse. They were obviously in last so far.
Desert Storm was next and did not do any better than Immortal. Maybe he was not entertaining/wicked, or maybe Brooklyn was just biased against Desert Storm, but he totally failed to rock Elite Ark. Playing Junior Gong's "Welcome To Jamrock," custom built for World Clash did not even get him much of a forward. Uton Green's "Can't Tek," as well as Anthony Johnson's "Every Night Is a Soundclash," did not help Desert Storm. In my opinion, they fared worse than Immortal in the first round.
Sentinel was up next and made it clear they came to play rough, as they played two custom built counteractions to two tunes Mighty Crown played in their first round, Gyptian's "Serious Times," and Jah Mason's "Princess Gone." They got nice forwards for these tunes and further bust the dance with some dubs on the Season riddim from Richie Spice and others. They got massive forwards for Marlon Asha's "Ganja Farmer," and Beres Hammond's "Many Will Try." They also played two custom built tunes which got a nice reception ... Leftside & Esco's "Skin Out," and Vybz Kartel's "Emergency." Most forwards for the first round, they were the clear leader to this point.
Panther came in and made Brooklyn laugh a bit with his antics. Surprisingly, he and Yunzie were playing CDs. He played a custom built Junior Kelly "Receive," and got a good forward for it. That was the highlight of his round, as he played some typical Black Kat dubs on the Far East (Nitty Kutchie, Richie Spice), getting little forwards. I think Panther was not trying to "run down" Sentinel's exceptional performance in the first round.
After the first round, it was decided that Sentinel won the round. This did not matter, though, as this clash was ruled "Last Man Standing," and this is a no elimination round, anyway.
