Sesame Flyers International, Frankie McIntosh & His Circle of Friends deliver an Evening of Pan and Jazz

An intimately exclusive gathering of about seventy-five people packed the Sesame Flyers Cultural Center on Church Avenue in Brooklyn, New York on April 3 for an evening billed as Pan and Jazz. Featured artistes were world-renowned musician and arranger Frankie McIntosh and his Circle of Friends.

Around six-twenty, Mistress of Ceremonies Ms. Janet Cummings welcomed everyone to what would turn out to be a music and pleasure-filled number of hours. And then it was straight to business of the evening - great entertainment.

The mature audience present alternately sang, swayed and danced in their seats, through the first musical set delivered by McIntosh and his musicians, which opened with the classic Blue Bossa. The almost hour-long first half included a well-conceived music mix for the palates of those present - Breezin', Tay Lay Lay, a taste of Bob Marley's Jammin', a Medley of Calypsonian Shadow's classics, the Lord Kitchener's Sugar Bum Bum, and Knocking On Heaven's Door, to name but a few.

Frankie McIntosh's cadre of musical friends on this occasion included Garvin Blake on steel pans, Lawrence Flavius on drums, and son Omar McIntosh on bass. Daka (Donald Griffith), ably added the vocal element to the musicians.

The organizers made sure that not only the musical appetites but also the culinary tastes of their guests were sated as well. Refreshments were served during half-time as the audience waited in anticipation for the second half of Pan and Jazz.

Pan and Jazz, the brainchild of one of Sesame Flyers International's Directors - Ms. Jean Holligan - was first hosted by Sesame Flyers in 2003. Ms. Holligan essentially discerned and appreciated the need for a show which would cater to an eager niche of patrons. The event is subsequently one where the mature Caribbean crowd enjoys a class act in their own neighborhood, featuring world-class Caribbean musicians performing both Caribbean music and international hits with a Caribbean tinge. It's hats off to Sesame Flyers International for the 2005 edition of Pan and Jazz.
