Barbados, home to hip hop and RnB sensation Rihanna, is set to declare a public holiday in her honour appropriately dubbed "Rihanna Day". The news came as a surprise to the 20 year old singer who was discovered by Jay-Z a couple years back.
Sources close to Rihanna have been quoted as saying, "She's really flattered. She can't believe she now has her on national day, it's such an honour." Rihanna will fly in to Barbados to accept the honour on February 21, 2008 and also perform a free concert while on the island.

It is also understood the RnB crooner Chris Brown will also be in Barbados for the celebrations. Whether he will perform while there or not has not been disclosed. Rihanna and Chris Brown are rumoured to be intimately involved, however no statement from either party confirms such rumours.
We are not too sure what prompted the Barbados government to declare February 21 as "Rihanna Day", but to soca and calypso aficionados, one might wonder how there has not been an "Alison Hinds Day" or even a "Rupee Day" declared. Only thing might be that you need to make it big in the North American hip hop world or win a few Grammys!
