When Prince made his grand entrance at the Bourne Ultimatum recently at the Leicester Square opening with a twin sister combination it was the talk of the town. Little did they know Maya and Nandy McClean have some Trinidadian heritage.
When they strutted down the red carpet with Prince, the two girls known only as The Twinz were the epitome of cool.
But, as the picture below shows there was a time when the sisters had a much more innocent outlook.
The stunning identical twins are 26-year-olds Maya and Nandy McClean, and their pursuit of a life in showbusiness has left their family back in Australia a little concerned.
But the glamour of the occasion was a long way from their childhood home of Byron Bay, a small town in rural New South Wales popular with surfers, tourists and hippies.
The early years of the McClean sisters - daughters of a hard-drinking session musician from Trinidad, Bruce McClean, and Mo Hughes, a drugs charity campaigner - were unsettled. The family didn't have much money and would often move around.
As a result, Maya and Nandy immersed themselves in music, earning their break on a cruise ship in 2003.
But their half-brother, Stewart Hughes, 42, revealed last night that although the family had faith in the girls' "moral strength", their mother had been "worried about what they might be exposed to" in their new showbiz world.
Both went on to audition for talent show Australian Idol 2, although only Maya got picked. She was one of 30 finalists but pulled out so she could pursue a career with her sister. They appeared together in the Sydney production of The Lion King.
When not hanging off Prince's arm, the exotic pair have been gyrating during his marathon shows at the O2 arena, the former Millennium Dome, and spending time at Prince's suite at the nearby Four Seasons Hotel.
Though they speak as rarely as he does, they did let on: "Prince is a huge fan of ours. He is someone who likes to have beautiful women around him. He is a cool cat, always dressed to impress. And he keeps us laughing all the time."
They were certainly getting on famously at the after-show party this week following the Leicester Square premiere of The Bourne Ultimatum. Arriving after 1am at the Shoreditch House club in East London, sharp-suited Prince and the twins were surrounded by bodyguards and placed themselves in a corner of the VIP lounge.
The singer, 49, has had a chequered love life. Sheena Easton, Susanna Hoffs of the Bangles, Kim Basinger and Carmen Electra have all been his consorts. He married dancer Mayte Garcia in 1996. They divorced in 1999. He wed Manuela Testolini in 2001, but she filed for divorce last year.
