Monday 11th July 2005 is surely a day that most of us will never forget. A day that we were thrust into a state of panic and fear. While walking through POS immediately after the explosion rumors were certainly ripe. rumors such as "i hear three people dead!" or "i hear it have more bombs around town". in the morning period there was at least one confirmed bomb threat at a ministry as well as a minor "electrical problem" that resulted in the staff of the ministry of national security to evacuate the building for about 45 minutes.
the only common thing that i heard from witnesses and a couple of radio stations was that someone was seen coming out of a yellow band maxi taxi, dropping a "package" in the "bin" and hopping back into the maxi. rumor or reality you decide.
this morning i was greeted by dozens of maxi taxis crowding south quay because of a bomb scare in city gate. i think that was just the first of many for the remainder of this week.
what is really happening to our beloved country??? what is really going on??? who is really in charge??? what were ministers really trying to prove by going to the scene to "see what happened and ask questions" especially when the area was not fully secured.
why didn't certain persons realise the harm that would have resluted in the landing of a helicopter within mere meters of the crime scene!!!
so many questions and i'm sure within the next few days the answers that we would be given would do little to quell the fears of the average citizen.
honestly, i am still in a state of shock and it disgusts me to hear persons on the street joking about what happened. i hope that the investigation is done properly and that the perpetrator(s) are found and justice is served. even now persons are still afraid of going downtown and this should not happen in a society such as ours but given the recent trend of events during the last twelve months was it inevitable or god forbid, should we expect more??? |
