Vybz Kartel under investigation for five more murders
Self proclaimed dancehall hero Vybz Kartel is under is being probed for an additional five murders. Vybz Kartel, real name Adidja Palmer, has already been charged and is in police custody without bail for two murders thus far. The police are also investigating other individuals in the entertainment industry. Vybz Kartel faces a December 2 court date in regards to his current murder and drug-related charges.
Buju Banton granted bail in Florida
Jamaican reggae star Buju Banton was granted bail in the sum of US$250,000 today in Tampa, Florida. The bail for Banton, real name Mark Myrie came with some strict conditions. Although Buju's supporters will cheer for the decision to grant bail, Banton will have to receive an immigration bond to prevent deportation. The US authorities, however, would want to keep Buju in the US to face his new trial in December 2010.
Objections to bail for Buju
The US prosecution team has vehemently objected to the application for bail for reggae superstar Buju Banton. The application, made two days after a judge declared a mistrial in the illegal drug and gun case, attorney David Oscar Markus argued that Buju Banton was not a flight risk and was an internationally known reggae star who could stay at his house in South Florida with an ankle monitor.
Mistrial declared in Buju Banton case
A mistrial has been declared in the Buju Banton conspiracy trial in Tampa, Florida. The 12 member jury were split down the middle on the verdict since deliberations began last Thursday. Judge Jim Moody upheld the application submitted by Buju's attorney David Oscar Markus. Markus believes the reggae dancehall superstar will be exonerated in the new trial slated for December 2010.
Buju Banton anxiously awaits verdict in trial
Reggae dancehall superstar Buju Banton will be waiting at least until next Monday for a verdict in his cocaine conspiracy trial. The jury has been deliberating for two days without coming to unanimous verdict. The jurors resumed their deliberations on Friday morning about 9:50 Tampa time after being unable to reach a verdict on Thursday.
Marley and Buju testify at Tampa trial
Reggae artiste Stephen Marley, the son of late Reggae icon Bob Marley testified on behalf on Buju Banton yesterday in court in Tampa, Florida. He said he had been friends with Banton for more 19 years and did not know him to be a drug dealer. Buju Banton also took the witness stand in his cocaine trial, denying that he was a trafficker or a financier of any illicit drug activities. Buju said he was naive, and that he was only "talking crap" when he was recorded telling Government informant Alexander Johnson that he was a drug financier.
Bounty Killer denied bail for assault with hammer
Bounty Killer was yesterday remanded in custody when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court to answer an assault charge. Bounty, real name Rodney Pryce is accused of beating his girlfriend. Despite a plea from his attorney Christopher Townsend that his client was innocent, Bounty Killer was denied bail by Senior Magistrate Judith Pusey.
Matterhorn back on King Addies with Babyface
Tony Matterhorn is ready to get back into the war zone. Matterhorn recently announced his decision to rejoin foundation sound King Addies on a clash basis, saying, "Addies is wha mek Matterhorn who he is today. Everyone knows me from King Addies." Known as the 'Billboard Sound' from New York, King Addies is known as one of the biggest sound clash contenders based outside of Jamaica. Addies emerged as the leading sound out of New York in the late '80s and early '90s with the perfect combination of Babyface and Tony Matterhorn.
Buju Banton co-defendant enters plea deal
Ian Thomas, a co-defendant of Buju Banton has entered a plea deal with United States prosecutors and will plead guilty to conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute five kilograms or more of cocaine. Banton, a four-time Grammy nominee, is set to stand trial September 20 along with another co-defendant, James Mack, on charges they participated in a cocaine deal in Sarasota, Florida. The charge carries up to life in federal prison.
Range Rover and Land Cruiser seized from Bounty Killer
A Range Rover and Land Cruiser were both seized from dancehall legend Bounty Killer due to millions of Jamaican dollars owed in taxes to the Tax Administration in Jamaica. Efforts to reach Bounty Killer, aka Rodney Pryce, were unsuccessful, however his lawyer Linda Wright said that he would be meeting with his chartered accountant today to review details of the claim. Efforts to contact Bounty Killer were unsuccessful.
Elephant Man assets seized for unpaid taxes
Assets, including a red Mercedes Benz convertible have been seized from dancehall superstar Elephant Man. Elephant Man, real name, O'Neil Bryan, according to his lawyer Roderick Gordon, "He (Elephant Man) was really shocked this morning. He's telling me police nearly hit down his door. He wasn't sure what's going on, they knocked it hard, something to do with tax obligation they say he owes." The raid was conducted by the Special Enforcement Team at Jamaica Inland Revenue.
Lincoln Sugar Minott dead at 64
Legendary singer, producer and sound owner Lincoln 'Sugar' Minott is dead at age 64. Sugar Minott, who was born Lincoln Barrington Minott on May 25, 1956, earned himself the title Godfather of Dancehall. Sugar is credited with being the pioneer, by laying vocal tracks over the original tapes from the 1960's, rather than using a live band, as was the norm in those days, caused a revolution in the sound that brought a new style to Reggae music known as dancehall.
Vybz Kartel to remain in jail and will miss Sumfest 2010
Reggae danchehall artistes Vybz Kartel will have to spend another 30 days behind bars after Jamaican authorities extended his five-day detention order. When Vybz Kartel turned in himself last week, his original detention was extended from 24 hours to five days. Kartel was detained last week Friday and underwent intense questioning after turning himself to the Greater Portmore Police Station, some three days after the police named him and five other men as major persons of interest.
Vybz Kartel a person of interest by Jamaica police
Adidja Palmer know affectionately as Vybz Kartel, is among six persons listed by the St Catherine South police in Jamaica as major persons of interest. The other persons of interest are Omar Lawrence, Seymour Johnson, Paul Smith, Oneil Myurrie and Damion Perry. Having not kept the date to meet with police yesterday, there is word again that Vybz Kartel will show up at a station in Portmore, Jamaica today.
Dudus to be extradited to United States today
Alleged leader of the Shower Posse, Christopher 'Dudus' Coke, has waived his right to an extradition trial. Coke will be transported to the United States by 3 pm today to then answer drugs and gun running charges. Dudus was also served with a Restraint Order by Jamaican authorities, which in essence freezes all of his assets in Jamaica. After a month long manhunt Coke was arrested on Tuesday afternoon on the border of St. Andrew and St. Catherine.

The elusive Christopher 'Dudus' Coke is now in police custody in Jamaica, surrendering peacefully after negotiations with Reverend Al Miller. Dudus has been on the run for over a month now after Jamaican authorities began a hard hitting sweep in Tivoli Gardens, Kingston, Jamaica. Dudus is wanted on a United States extradition warrant on gun and drug charges.
Jamaica cannot locate Dudus
Word surfaced yesterday that the Tivoli Gardens strongman, Christopher Dudus Coke, has managed to elude the security forces that invaded Tivoli Gardens on Monday. Several of his most trusted lieutenants, described by sources as among his most dangerous cohorts also managed to escape the dragnet thrown down by the security forces. Coke is being sought by police who are seeking to serve on him a warrant of arrest after Government last week signed an order clearing the way for extradition proceedings to begin.
Shower Posse don Dudus not found after 44 dead
After the Jamaica army and police launched a blitzing assault on Tivoli Gardens strongman, Christoper Dudus Coke has not been found. The urban warfare in Kingston, Jamaica has claimed 44 lives thus far according to Public Defender Earl Witter. Word on the street is that Dudus left Tivoli even before the assault began three days ago. Dudus is wanted in the United States on numerous charges and is labeled as one of the most feared narcotics traffickers in the world.

Tivoli Gardens strongman and wanted man by the United States government, Christopher Dudus Coke, has declared he will not surrender. Over the weekend violence has increased in Kington, Jamaica with members of the police and Army taking casualties. A state of emergency was also declared focused on the Tivoli Gardens area, home to the alleged leader of the notorious Shower Posse.
State Of Emergency declared in Kingston and St Andrew
A limited State of Emergency has been implemented in Kingston and St. Andrew, Jamaica as the instability of the capital continues with criminals seeking to prevent the arrest of alleged crime lord Christopher 'Dudus' Coke. The decision was made at an emergency cabinet meeting earlier today. The Cabinet met amidst growing unrest in the downtown Kingston region. Sections of west Kingston have been unstable since the government approved the extradition request for Coke who lives in Tivoli Gardens.
Tivoli tensions rise over Dudus warrant
Anger rose to a boiling point in Tivoli Gardens as gunmen clashed with the Jamaica Defence Force over the extradition warrant signed for the arrest for Christopher Coke, affectionately known as Dudus or President. Residents loyal to Dudus erected blockades to every entrance to the garrison, confiscated cellphones and allegedly using other residents as human shields. It is not known if Dudus is in Tivoli Gardens at present.

Jamaica Prime Minister Bruce Golding, under pressure to resign, has signed the extradition warrant for the arrest of Tivoli don Christopher Dudus Coke. Dudus has been wanted by the United States since August 2009 on charges of trafficking in drugs and guns. The Jamaican Government had delayed acting on it, arguing that the evidence presented by the Americans was gathered in breach of Jamaican law. Coincidentally Tivoli Gardens is an area in the constituency of Bruce Golding.
Beenie, Bounty, Mavado, Trooper US visas canceled
The United States Embassy in Kingston, Jamaica have reportedly canceled the visas of four dancehall artistes and one selector. The artistes are Aidonia, Beenie Man, Bounty Killer and Mavado. The lone selector is Ricky Trooper of Kilimanjaro and Sound Trooper fame. The Minister of National Security for Jamaica Dwight Nelson however could not confirm the visa cancellations.
Jamaica says no to Dudus US extradition
Jamaica Prime Minister Bruce Golding has responded to United State criticism over their refusal to extradite Tivoli Gardens don Dudus. Christopher Coke otherwise known as Dudus has been the subject of an extradition request by the United States since August 25, 2009. The Jamaican government maintains that the evidence presented by the United States was obtained illegally, and as such, the request has been denied.
Jamaica police ready for Dudus backlash
Jamaica Acting Deputy Commissioner of Police Glenmore Hinds, has publicly stated that his forces are ready for any backlash associated with the deportation of West Kingston don, Christopher ‘Dudus’ Coke. Dudus is wanted in the United States on drug and arms trafficking charges. The Jamaican Government has not signed the request since the United States sent the papers to Jamaica in August.
