Jamaica says no to Dudus US extradition

Jamaica Prime Minister Bruce Golding has responded to United State criticism over their refusal to extradite Tivoli Gardens don Dudus. Christopher Coke otherwise known as Dudus has been the subject of an extradition request by the United States since August 25, 2009. The Jamaican government maintains that the evidence presented by the United States was obtained illegally, and as such, the request has been denied.

Trinidad Petrotrin sued in New York

Petrotrin has been sued by World GTL Incorporated and its subsidiary, World GTL (St Lucia), in the United States Federal Court in Manhattan, New York, seeking no less than $12 billion for their losses over the collapse and breach of contract of a joint venture project. The action arose out of the alleged wrongful taking and expropriation of a nearly-completed $3 billion gas-to-liquid plant, being constructed inside the Petrotrin refinery, Pointe-a-Pierre.

Beyonce ends I AM Tour in Trinidad after Carnival

Beyonce Knowles ended her I AM World Tour in Trinidad and Tobago last night to much pleasure. Beyonce aka Sasha Fierce, performing for her first time in Trinidad at the Queen's Park Savannah remarked that the people of Trinidad and Tobago know "how to party". Opening for Beyonce was Machel Montano and the HD Family, with Destra Garcia joining him for their hit combo, Is Carnival.

Jamaica police ready for Dudus backlash

Jamaica Acting Deputy Commissioner of Police Glenmore Hinds, has publicly stated that his forces are ready for any backlash associated with the deportation of West Kingston don, Christopher ‘Dudus’ Coke. Dudus is wanted in the United States on drug and arms trafficking charges. The Jamaican Government has not signed the request since the United States sent the papers to Jamaica in August.

Climate change hypocrisy in Trinidad and Tobago

As environmental groups in Trinidad and Tobago oppose the construction of an aluminum smelter, the Prime Minister, Patrick Manning, who supports the construction, confirmed that Trinidad will be represented at the climate change talks in Copenhagen, Denmark next week. This came after it was announced that the Port of Spain Climate Change Consensus – The Commonwealth Climate Change Declaration was signed after the CHOGM held in Trinidad this week.

Obama and Hu may attend CHOGM in Trinidad and Tobago

United States President Barack Obama and Chinese President Hu Jintao may attend the Commonwealth Heads Of Goverment Meeting in Trinidad and Tobago. They might be joined by other non-Commonwealth leaders including Prime Minister of Spain, Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapetero, and President of Brazil Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. This became a possibility after Obama and Hu were unable to hammer out a firm agreement on climate change during the visit of Preseident Obama to China recently.

Anya Ayoung-Chee in sex tape scandal - Former Trinidad and Tobago Miss Universe contestant

Former Miss Universe Trinidad and Tobago 2008 contestant, Anya Ayoung-Chee has a sex tape which was supposedly swiped from the laptop of her boyfriend, Wyatt Gallery. According to TMZ, Wyatt Gallery confirmed Ayoung-Chee was in the tape with him and another woman, but the other woman was not Miss Japan Hiroko Mima. Gallery claims the video with him, Ayoung-Chee and another unidentified woman was swiped while at a PC repair shop in Trinidad.

Breathalyser law takes effect in Trinidad and Tobago

Trinidad and Tobago Works Minister Colm Imbert announced yesterday that President George Maxwell Richards would proclaim the act which will allow the use of the breathalyser in Trinidad and Tobago on Monday. The Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic Amendment Act, which allowed for the use of a breathalyser, was first passed under the United National Congress administration but was never implemented.

New constitution for Trinidad and Tobago

Trinidad and Tobago political leaders, Prime Minister Patrick Manning and Opposition Leader Basdeo Panday have agreed in principle that Trinidad and Tobago needs a new constitution. Both leaders met yesterday at the newly constructed Diplomatic Centre in St. Ann’s, Trinidad. One stumbling block is in regards to the post of Executive President, with Panday and Manning at odds on the election process.

Trinidad and Tobago revolution coming

Makandal Daaga, head of NJAC, held a public consultation about the current Urban Development Corporation of Trinidad and Tobago situation at the Scherzando Pan Yard in Curepe, where he announced a revolution, similar to the Black Power Movement of the 1970s, is coming to Trinidad and Tobago, if controversy surrounding UDeCOTT is not sorted out at present. Daaga annouced that he is willing to go to jail as well, just as he did 39 years ago.

Two more die from H1N1 in Trinidad and Tobago

Two more people have died from the H1N1 virus in Trinidad and Tobago. There are now four reported deaths related to swine flu in Trinidad and Tobago. Three deaths were at the San Fernando General Hospital while the fourth was at the Port Of Spain General Hospital. The deceased are a 28 year old man from Penal and a 62 year old business woman.

Two H1N1 deaths in Trinidad and Tobago reported

Trinidad and Tobago have confirmed two deaths from the the H1N1 virus, otherwise incorrectly known as the swine flu. A third death is also currently under investigation. This has been confirmed by the Trinidad and Tobago Health Minister Jerry Narace, at a press conference at the Ministry Of Health in Port Of Spain, Trinidad. All cases were from the San Fernando General Hospital.

Carnival bandleaders not happy with mobile toilet ban

Trinidad and Tobago Carnival bandleaders are set to face off with the Port Of Spain Mayor and other stakeholders tomorrow over a proposed band on mobile restrooms. The bands are arguing that the mobile washrooms have become the norm for all-inclusive bands, and have already been purchased as part of the all-inclusive packages for next year’s Carnival.

Tivoli don Christopher 'Dudus' Coke wanted by United States

Christopher ‘Dudus’ Coke, Tivoli don, and son of the late Shower Posse don, Lester Lloyd Coke, aka ‘Jim Brown’, is wanted by the United States government. This was confirmed yesterday by Foreign Affairs Minister Kenneth Baugh, stating that an extradition request has been filed.

Spragga Benz’s son Carlton Grant’s memorial was shot up by Jamaica police early yesterday morning. Family members, friends and supporters of the Spragga and his deceased son Carlton gathered near the corner of Law and Hanover streets in memory of the youth who died under questionable circumstances on August 23, last year.

Bail denied for Greene attacker in Tobago

Clint Alexis, 25, of Breadfruit Alley in Argyle, Tobago, was denied bail yesterday, when he appeared in court for the attempted murder of British couple, Peter and Murium Greene. He appeared before Magistrate Annette McKenzie in Scarborough Court, where defence attorney Larry Williams claimed that Alexis was beaten while in police custody.

Tobago man charged in British couple attack

A 25 year old man, Clint Alexis, from Argyle, Tobago has been formally charged with the brutal attack on British couple, Peter and Murium Greene at their vacation home in Tobago last week. The man has been in custody since Monday but only confessed after a visit by officers from Trinidad admitting to being involved in the brutal attack.

Tobago warning for British tourists

The British Foreign Office and the Commonwealth Office have updated travel advisories to Tobago following the brutal attack of British couple Peter Greene, 65, and his wife Murium, 59, at their Bacolet, Tobago home last Saturday. Also referenced was an incident at Bon Accord, Black Rock, in which a British woman was robbed and sexually assaulted at her villa.

British couple attacked and chopped in Tobago

British retirees Murium and Peter Greene were attacked and chopped using machetes or similar weapons, shortly before 2 p.m. on Saturday, at their vacation home in Bacolet, Tobago. This comes on the heels of a Swedish couple who were murdered last year and two British women who were raped in front of their husbands.

Trinidad Prime Minister claims assassination attempt averted

Trinidad and Tobago Prime Minister Patrick Manning has claimed that there was a plot to assassinate him last year. The plot was averted and citizens of the twin island republic are wondering why the news did not surface earlier. Manning claims that the plot was revealed to his wife, Local Government Minister Hazel Manning.

Jack Warner meets Obama at White House

FIFA top brass including President Sepp Blatter, Vice President and CONCACAF President Jack Warner along with General Secretary Jerome Valcke met with President Barack Obama at the White House yesterday. The meeting was called after Obama hinted on the United States’ interest in hosting the World Cup in the near future.

Michael Jackson doctor Conrad Murray from Trinidad

Although TMZ is reporting that Michael Jackson’s cardiologist Dr. Conrad Murray was born in Grenada, locals in Trinidad and Tobago insist he is a Trinidadian. Residents, schoolmates and neighbours, including doctors from the St. Clair Medical Centre in St Clair, have said that Murray grew up in San Juan, Trinidad.

In Trinidad and Tobago, people were glued to televisions and radios as the news of Michael Jackson’s death was presented before them on just about every news channel. The immediate reaction of most people was that of shock and disbelief.

Usain Bolt robbed in Jamaica while away

While Usain Bolt was away in Ostrava, Czech Republic, bandits entered Bolt’s Lady Musgrave home in St. Andrew. Digital cameras, mobile phones and a laptop were stolen with a value of J$90,000. Bolt’s brother Sadeke, who lives there, made a report to the local police station following the robbery.
