Christopher Dudus Coke held in Jamaica

The elusive Christopher 'Dudus' Coke is now in police custody in Jamaica, surrendering peacefully after negotiations with Reverend Al Miller. Dudus has been on the run for over a month now after Jamaican authorities began a hard hitting sweep in Tivoli Gardens, Kingston, Jamaica. Dudus is wanted on a United States extradition warrant on gun and drug charges.

Dudus the alleged head, or don, of the notorious Shower Posse is the adopted son of the former head of the Shower Posse, Lloyd Coke. His adopted father was also wanted in the United States. Coke Sr. was arrested and was found mysteriously burnt to death in his cell while awaiting extradition.

Coke was arrested by a police party manning a checkpoint along the Mandela Highway in St Catherine. Dudus normally sporting a mustache was clean shaven wearing a wig and glasses. Reverend Miller was taking Dudus to the United States Embassy on Coke's direction when he was intercepted by the police. Coke was happy that he was unharmed. Speaking at an impromptu news conference at his office, Jamaica Police Commissioner Owen Ellington said the cops who arrested Coke were acting on intelligence. The arrest took place about 4:00 pm.

He said investigators were trying to ascertain why Miller, who is now wanted for questioning, was allowed to go. "From our standpoint we believe that he needs to come in and speak with us because there are some questions that he needs to answer," Ellington said. "The circumstances of Mr Coke's arrest is the subject of an investigation." He also stated that the police were not aware that Coke had indicated an interest to waive his right to an extradition hearing and asked the Reverend Al Miller to turn himself in.

Reverend Al Miller has been instrumental to the police during their recent operation in Jamaica, as he brokered the peaceful surrender of Coke's sister Sandy and brother Leighton. The one-month manhunt for Coke has stretched from inner city communities in West Kingston to upscale neighbourhoods in St. Andrew. Houses of past and present politicians have also been searched, as the quest to find Coke fanned out to rural communities in Manchester, St. Mary and St. Ann.

Jamaica Police Commissioner Owen Ellington said former Tivoli Gardens don Christopher 'Dudus' Coke may be charged for crimes committed locally if the police are able to build a case against him. Coke spent last night in an unidentified maximum security prison in Jamaica.
