Jack Warner taking Basdeo Panday to court
Filed under: News|Trinidad and Tobago
Within hours of the office being opened, scores of people gathered to speak to Warner on a range of concerns including poor roads, clogged drains and broken bridges. Speaking to reporters, Warner said: “You think Panday and I should be going to court? This should not have happened. Mr Panday was my friend, my icon. An English lawyer is coming down on Tuesday to take up this case and you think it costing peanuts. Mr Panday will pay! Every one of them will pay!” Warner said.
“When the case is finished and they cannot pay (the legal fees), I am going after their house, their property, their furniture, their car. They must feel it. They must pay... “Somebody must turn and say to Bas enough is enough. I have done too much for Panday to call me a drug lord just because I chose to help poor people. Panday doesn't know what he has done. Panday will pay and all those who are with him will pay, and the money I get back I will give to the poor,” Warner added. He contended that there is no other way to get into Government unless an alliance is made with the Congress of the People.
He added that the mission is to rebrand the UNC into becoming a respected party that could work with the COP with a view to overthrowing the ruling PNM. However, he said this mission could never be achieved with Panday at the helm, because people had no respect or trust for Panday. He apologised to supporters for engaging in a “nasty fight” with Panday. “It is nasty and I know that. I apologise for it. But remember, it has to get bad nasty before it can get good, and when it gets good it will stay good.” Warner said he had no intention of being political leader but preferred the post of party chairman.
