Vybz Kartel flattens Sting in Trinidad
Filed under: Reggae|Trinidad and TobagoThe men, on the other hand, cheered incessantly and many pointed their index, middle fingers
and thumbs upwards, in typical Jamaican rude boy fashion. The much anticipated event, entitled My Place, was organised by Creative Glass Entertainment and featured the artiste’s first full-length concert in Trinidad.
Known mostly for his violent lyrics and his ongoing lyrical feud with fellow dancehall artiste Mavado, special emphasis was placed on security at Kartel’s concert as several officers were deployed to the venue. At the start of the live entertainment around 2 am, Kartel, dressed in a pin-striped suit, and accompanied by his entourage called the Portmore Empire, immediately delved into his playlist, much to the delight of the fans.
Also receiving strong response from the packed venue, was his collaboration with fellow band member Lisa for their rendition of the popular song Romping Shop. Other on-stage performances included those from fellow band members Popcorn and Storm who had patrons jumping with their respective songs. The crowd then went wild as Kartel once again took centre stage, bringing the curtains down on his almost two-hour performance with his immensely popular Last man Standing.
Arguably his most popular song on the local airwaves, the crowd could not get enough as they lustily sang every word along with him, even requesting an encore performance of the song. There were few incidents of violence which were all quickly quelled by the security. Speaking after the show, one of the managers for Creative Glass Entertainment, Bhola Lalee, said the event was one of the organisation’s first and he was looking forward to making a positive contribution to the entertainment landscape.
