Machel Montano and Beenie Man - friends for life
Filed under: Reggae|Trinidad and Tobago Beenie Man and Machel Montano were on stage together in Miami recently to dispel rumours that the two were at odds over a supposed altercation at a recent concert in Miami. Rumours were swirling that Machel Montano and his band sabotaged Beenie Man and his band while they were performing, causing Beenie Man’s microphone to continually malfunction.
The two artists moved immediately the next night to crush the rumours that have been raging in Miami among Caribbean people. Before a large crowd at the Virginia Key Beach location where the Caribbean Beach Fest 2009 was being staged, Beenie Man, with his arm around Machel’s shoulder, declared: “There is a talk going around that me and Machel had a big falling out and that we are now enemies.
“I want to make it clear to everyone that Machel ah meh friend for life.” The rumour, which spread like a contagious disease, stemmed from an incident at a show the previous night, where both artistes’ bands appeared in Miami.
Reports indicate that Beenie Man was on stage performing when his microphone began to malfunction. It was further reported that because Machel Montano and the HD Family were due to appear next, it gave Beenie Man the impression that his performance was being sabotaged, to force him to end earlier than he had planned. Infuriated by this, the Jamaican is alleged to have made some remarks that were less than charitable about Machel. Both men later discussed what was an unfortunate misunderstanding and Beenie Man was convinced that Machel and his band had nothing to do with the incident that affected the Beenie Man’s performance.
The hug-up and make up display by the two leading Caribbean entertainers was really a special moment to experience. The audience thoroughly enjoyed the demonstration of unity and love. The ovation was vociferous when the artistes went into an extempo exchange. Also appearing at the event, doing solo performances, were Farmer Nappy, Patrice Roberts and Zan from the HD Family. There were, as well, tasteful offerings from the Jam Band from the Virgin Islands, Iwer George, KMC and Dil-e-Nadan, whose presentation was scintillating, unique and exceptionally entertaining.
