Mavado robbed in Toronto - angry fans in Atlanta and Trinidad
Filed under: Reggae|OtherReggae dancehall fans in Atlanta and Trinidad were in for disappointment as dancehall star Mavado was forced to cancel concerts in both places after he was robbed while in Toronto over the weekend for another concert. Reports are he was robbed while checking into his hotel.
Mavado lost in the robbery very important documents including his passport. Other items included money, laptop and other travel documents. Ads were running on urban radio station Flow 93.5 FM with rewards for this lost items starting at C$2500 and which eventually worked it's way up to C$5000.
Meanwhile Movado hoping to still make his US date was declined by US Customs in Toronto at Pearson International Airport. Movado was further derailed when he also had to miss a much anticipated date at Sting nightclub in Gulf City, Trinidad.
According to reports from Trinidad and Tobago, "hundreds of patrons erupted in anger on Sunday night". This was after learning via a sign on the front door that Movado will not be performing at the show because he missed his flight. The truth is that Movado could not fly at all since he lost his passport.
The promoter Glenroy Watson, offered refunds but he claimed, "People started making threats and they wanted to kill me. Security broke down and things went wild and overbearing." Watson continued, "I already paid him some money and he promised to return it for a no-show, but so far I have not received the money. The show cost me US$17,000 to organise." When this happens, Watson said "promoters have to stand their losses. We are not insured for shows".
