Jamaica man faces child porn charge
Filed under: News|OtherA Jamaica man already facing an aggravated sexual assault charge was arraigned for new charges of possessing child pornography, Monday in Windham District Court. Shawn Grover, 37, pleaded not guilty to two counts of possession of child pornography. On each count, Grover faces up to two years imprisonment and a $5,000 fine.
Judge John E. Pyatak released Grover on his previous conditions and on a new condition that he not own, operate or possess a computer.
In October, Grover was charged with aggravated sexual assault, lewd and lascivious conduct with a child. Windham County State's Attorney Dan M. Davis later amended the charges to include dissemination of indecent material to a minor. Grover was later charged with felony possession of marijuana.
Grover faces up to life imprisonment and a $50,000 fine, for the assault charge; up to five years imprisonment and a $3,000 fine for the lewd and lascivious charge. For the marijuana possession charge, he faces up to three years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
Grover was released on conditions, including that he not come with 100 feet of the alleged victim or her mother and not have unsupervised contact with a child under the age of 16.
The charges against Grover stem from incidents that allegedly occurred between August 2002 and August 2003. On repeated occasions, Grover allegedly molested a 7-year-old child. During this time, Grover allegedly showed the minor digital and magazine images of both adults and child pornographic acts to "prepare (the child) for when she got older and had a boyfriend," according to court documents.
