Steve Ferguson and Ishwar Galbaransingh have lost their extradition appeal before the Appeal Court. Galbaransingh and Ferguson have been indicted in the United States on 84 charges of bid-rigging, money laundering, conspiracy to commit wire fraud, conspiracy to defraud and wire fraud, arising from the Piarco Airport development project.

News: Caribbean hit by 7.4 earthquake

A strong earthquake rocked the Caribbean around 3pm off the coast of Martinique. The earthquake was 7.4 on the Richter Scale and lasted anywhere between 20 seconds and 10 minutes. The earthquake was very deep and therefore did not pose a tsunami risk.

After claims by Superintendent Chandrabhan Maharaj about rampant corruption within the ranks of the police service, he is now opposed to the selection of Assistant Commissioner Glenroy Woodley to lead the investigation. Instead he would prefer if detectives from outside the police service, preferably FBI or Scotland Yard detectives, lead the investigation.

Acting DCP Criminal Operations Gilbert Reyes of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service, has warned the Trinidadian and Tobagonian public to be on the lookout for criminals impersonating police officers and other law officials. "Everybody in black and everybody resembling police," Reyes said.

Sean Kingston was roundly booed with very little positive crowd response while performing in his final show in Trinidad and Tobago at Zen nightclub. Kingston who throughly pleased the younger audience in his first show, did not get the same reception from the adult crowd later on. The young artist did not entertain an encore after closing with his smash hit "Beautiful Girls".

The sinking Explorer cruise ship run by G.A.P. Adventures in Toronto is owned by Trinidadian Brian Poon Tip. Poon Tip is the Chief Executive Officer of G.A.P. Adventures. The Explorer started taking on water after colliding with an ice floe. All passengers and crew have been evacuated to Chile. This is the first incident the Explorer has had in forty years of business.

The crime wave and in turn the number of murders in Trinidad and Tobago has once again increased. With murder rate at 327 for the year, the National Security Minister Martin Joseph met with reporters to apprise them of updates on the crime situation. Joseph claims to have underestimated the task.

The New York Police Department (NYPD) shot dead 18 year old Khiel Coppin on Monday. Khiel Coppin was born in Tobago and moved to the United States when he was one year old. NYPD reportedly shot Khiel because he had a gun. The gun however turned out to be a hair brush.

Basdeo Panday was not humble in defeat. Panday instead chose to launch an attack against those who voted for Winston Dookeran's COP party and any other party for that matter. Panday needs to come to the realization that his lust for power pushed Winston Dookeran and with him all of his supporters forever away from a Panday run UNC.

Patrick Manning, the leader of the PNM, in declaring victory was defiant as ever claiming the PNM "has succeeded in bridging the divide". Winston Dookeran, leader of the COP in conceding, appeared to be unsure of continuing in politics. Basdeo Panday and Jack Warner, co-leaders of UNC Alliance said they underestimated COP in their ability to split the votes.
