News: Violence escalates as COP Laventille candidate St. Clair beaten

After receiving many threats David St. Clair, the candidate for Congress of the People in Laventille West was badly beaten and remains in hospital. St Clair is now nursing serious internal and external injuries after being beaten repeatedly about the body with the flat side of a cutlass (planass) and a piece of wood by two men.

Reggae dancehall icon Sizzla aka Miguel Collins delivered a performance at the PNM Beyond Youth Rally in Trinidad yesterday. Even more surprising than Sizzla at a political rally was the fact that Sizzla opened the show shortly after 3pm. Maximus Dan as well Iwer "Boss" George performed at the rally targeting youths.

Former Attorney General, Ramesh Lawrence Maharaj, has hit back at Prime Minister Patrick Manning. This after Manning revealed it was Maharaj who gave him details of former Prime Minister Basdeo Panday's house in England. Maharaj, in a campaign stop, held a picture of the house the Manning allegedly owns through his son David Manning.

Violence, similar to what was reported earlier has continued this week in Trinidad and Tobago with the murder Shawn Douglas, an activist for UNC Alliance. Douglas is a member of Lennox Smith's campaign team. Douglas was murdered when a man walked up to him and shot him in his face.

FIFA has stated in a report on it's website that CONCACAF President and FIFA VP Jack Warner is "currently campaigning to become the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago". Warner is in South Africa on both FIFA and UNC Alliance business, with UNC-A co-leader Basdeo Panday in tow.

After not showing up for a scheduled court appearance to answer charges of tax evasion Beenie Man is now wanted in Jamaica with an arrest warrant being issued. Beenie Man stated he was on a video shoot and expected his lawyer to be present. Beenie Man will turn himself in today, upon his return to Jamaica.

UNC Alliance candidate, Lennox Smith, representative for Laventille East/Morvant has been arrested on a myriad of charges. Smith is due to contest the seat in the upcoming elections on November 5, 2007. The charges include, breaching a protection order, assault by beating and two counts of obscene language. Visible support from UNC Alliance has been nonexistent.

Elephant Man, who recently had a concert in Toronto canceled at Koolhaus due to pressure from gay rights groups, wrote off his BMW X5 in Jamaica. Elephant Man received no injuries from the accident which occurred on Friday morning when he crashed into Priory wall.
