A girl who would have would turned 12 tomorrow, was found dead in the arms of a 24-year-old man, suspected by police to be her lover, in Toco yesterday morning.
By Geisha KowlessarSenior Eastern Division police are not ruling out the possibility that Narinesingh may have been coerced into a suicide pact by Baldeo, or possibly forced by the man to drink a poisonous substance.
Narinesingh, who recently sat the SEA examinations, was expected to begin classes at Sangre Grande Junior Secondary School next month.
A male relative said the family was very sad.
?This is no lovers' thing... I mean a 11-year-old girl. This boy just take this girl and gone up there and God knows what happen,? the man said.
Police said, however, according to information from residents, they believe that Baldeo, a gardener who was known in the Sangre Grande district, and Narinesingh had been involved in a love affair for some time.
Baldeo and Narinesingh were both from Little Cora Road in Cumuto.
However, when the teenager?s parents became separated, Narinesingh?s mother went to Barataria to live.
Police said they believed Baldeo decided to end his life and talked Narinesingh into ending hers, because his parents warned him about the illegal affair.
Their bodies were found in an embrace by a fisherman/coconut vendor in some bushes near to the lighthouse on Galera Road, Toco, shortly before 10 am yesterday.
Police said on Sunday morning Narinesingh told her mother she was going to a nearby shop.
Both the girl and Baldeo were reported missing shortly afterwards at Cumuto Police Station.
Police said they were told by residents that on the day in question, instead of going to the shop, the teenager went around the corner and met Baldeo.
They said Baldeo, who was waiting for Narinesingh, had hired a car, and he and Narinesingh went to Toco to spend the day.
Investigators said from information received, Narinesingh?s mother did not have any idea her daughter was involved with Baldeo.
Crime scene officers discovered bottles believed to have contained poisonous substances and a knife next to the bodies.
Investigators were also told they were last seen together at a wedding at Cunaripo.
They were also told by villagers that Narinesingh and Baldeo were romantically involved while they were both growing up in Cumuto.
Police said they were informed that Baldeo?s family spoke to him about the affair, and told him that he could get into trouble for being involved with a minor.
Autopsies are expected to be performed today at the Forensic Science Centre in St James, Port-of-Spain.
