Wyclef Jean is looking to buy a Caribbean island off the coast of his native Haiti in a bid to turn the war-ravaged republic into a tourist destination.

Wyclef - looking for an islandThe FUGEES star has three different locations in mind and is trying to convince developers and businessmen to invest in his paradise plans, because he's convinced his new island resort will become an exclusive holiday hotspot within the next 10 years.

He says, "It's definitely going to be more that a property, it's probably going to be more like a whole island and I'm going to work on developing that into the next Montego Bay.
"You already know that if Wyclef buys an island, you all come on it. Those who know me already know the festivities and the excitement that will be on that island."

Wyclef has just returned from Haiti, which has been ravaged by recent hurricanes and heavy rainstorms.

He adds, "I'm just seeing what's feasible and what's safe. The hurricanes are something you have to take into consideration when buying property anywhere in the Caribbean.

"You have to look at the angles and look how the water's coming in and if the wind is coming in - to predict which way it will hit. This is all part of the process before you actually pick a piece of land."
