SPECTRUM, the flagship show of Chancellor Hall, the University of The West Indies, is changing...

The show has been traditionally planned and executed by Chancellor Hall, but for this year's staging, scheduled for February 27, the Fifth Element Record Label will be handling management duties along with the students.
Nyron Morris, Chairman of Chancellor Hall, told The Gleaner that the move came as a result of the hall's push to improve the show's reputation and quality.
"The University has been saying for years that we need to get professionals on board for the administrative side of things. That is why we have formed an association with the Fifth Element label. They will take care of some aspects of the show," Morris stated.
These include part sponsorship, artiste booking and any other items the two parties will agree on. "We (Chancellor Hall) still have to put it together just the same, but they had some ideas they put forward and we put our ideas on the table as well," he said.
Other changes to the show will be a rigid security arrangement between Atlas Armoured Ltd. and campus security, to address persistent crowd trouble the show has had over the years.
"Backstage management especially will be high priority this year. We will have a set running order for the artistes, which we will follow. The artistes and their management will know of this before, so that no confusion happens on the night," Morris stressed.
With all those changes, the only thing that will remain the same, Morris mentioned, is the strong line-up of artistes and the usual vibe of the show. The show's theme will be 'Dancehall Nice Again', and will feature the majority of dancehall's leading figures.
"We cannot tell all of them yet, but we will have the best, plus a special surprise artiste as usual," he said.
Ahead of next week Friday's show at the Students' Union, UWI, advertising boards around Kingston have announced Beenie Man and the Fifth Element Crew of Chuck Fendah, Richie Spice and Anthony Cruz among the concert's main acts.
