Barely one week after having their nominations by the Music Of Black Origin (MOBO) withdrawn, Ele and Kartel have grabbed nominations again, but this time from the Source Hip Hop Awards. Beenie, who was not even considered for a MOBO Award this year, grabbed nominations in two categories.
The awards show dedicates an entire category to Reggae/Dancehall. Last year, organisers introduced the category 'Dancehall/Reggae Album Of The Year' which was won by Sean Paul, who edged out Elephant Man for Higher Level, Buju Banton for Friends For Life, Wayne Wonder for No Holding Back and Beenie Man's Tropical Storm.
This year, nominations are for the category 'Reggae/Dancehall Artist Of The Year' and the nominees are Elephant Man, Sizzla, Vybz Kartel, T.O.K., and Beenie Man.
Beenie popped up also in the 'Best Female Rap Collaboration' category, for the track Dude which features Miss Thing and Rapper Shawna.
In this category Beenie Man squares off with the likes of Mary J. Blige and Eve for Not Today, Chingy and Trina with Right Thurr, the Terror Squad and Remy Ma with Lean Back, and Beyonce with Lil Kim for Naughty Girl.
The Source Awards was created by the Source Magazine in 1991. During its first televised show on BET last year, the network reportedly received a record 2.7 million viewers for the season, and the seventh most watched show in BET's 23 year history.
