PORT OF SPAIN, Sept 6 (Reuters) - Trinidad and Tobago coach Bertille St Clair says his team are not afraid of Mexico, their opponents in Wednesday's World Cup qualifier.
Mexico are expected to steamroller their way through Group C in the second stage of the CONCACAF zone qualifying competition which also includes St Kitts and Nevis and St Vincent and the Grenadines. But the Mexicans have had a tough time on previous visits to Port of Spain. They played there twice during the qualifiers for the 2002 World Cup, losing the first game 1-0 and drawing the second 1-1.
'We know that Mexico are one of the top teams in the world but the gap between the top teams is getting closer, so we do not fear them,' St Clair told reporters on Monday.
Trinidad have won their opening games away to St Vincent and St Kitts while Mexico, who beat Dominica 18-0 on aggregate in the first round, will be playing their first match in the group.
Captain Angus Eve returns to the Trinidad side after missing Saturday's 2-1 win in St Kitts through suspension.
