Four killings in less than 12 hours, extending from Valencia in the east to Cocorite in the west, kept police officers busy over the Emancipation Day holiday yesterday.
Included in the bloodletting was a murder-suicide in which a 65-year-old man killed his 35-year-old lover after he reportedly discovered that the woman was involved with a younger man.In the other incidents, the body of a wanted man was found in a trace, and a reformed drug addict was shot several times in his bedroom.
Around 8.30 a.m. yesterday, Joe Nicholas and Jacqueline Paponette were discovered dead in a blue Cortina that was parked near an empty house at Nicholas Trace, Valencia.
Paponette was shot twice, once in the stomach and the right side of her head was reportedly "blown away". Nicholas, investigators said, had ingested a poisonous substance.
The car in which they were found is the same vehicle in which Nicholas picked up Paponette from work at Mario's Pizzeria, Arima, when she finished working on Sunday night.
Speaking with the Express the sister of the deceased woman, Sharon Rose, said the couple were having problems. She said her sister started seeing another man and wanted to end the relationship with Nicholas, but he would not let her go.
Rose said Paponette and Nicholas were together for the past nine years, and during that time, while Paponette was a homemaker, she said her sister was very loyal.
"But he does plant and the crop was not so good last year so my sister told him she was going to get a job. He did not want her to go out to work but she told him she and the children needed things so she needed to get a job."
Rose said her sister started working at Mario's less than a year ago and during that time met a man and started going out with him. She said they only knew the man by one name and did not know where he lived.
Father of the murdered woman, John Paponette, said he told his daughter that her relationship with Nicholas would be problematic."When that relationship started I told her, I said the first problem you will have is with sex. But she told me she loved the old man, so I didn't pry, I left them alone," he said.
Nicholas was said to be the holder of firearm user's licence which allowed him to keep a shotgun for hunting.
A shotgun was found in the car with the bodies.
In Morvant 41-year-old Delacy Nixon was shot nine times about his body in the bedroom of his home at Tapana Street, Morvant.
According to reports the brother of the victim, Clayton Sutton, who shared the home with Nixon, told investigators that he was in his room when he heard several gunshots coming from another part of the house. This wa around 1:30 a.m. on Monday. He got up to investigate and found his brother dead on the floor of his bed-room.
Investigators said they had not yet ascertained a motive for the murder. They said they were told by Sutton that Nixon had a drug problem but he kicked the habit about three years ago.
Morvant Police are continuing investigations.
