The second city of Montego Bay should today begin to see a greater influx of visitors on the annual pilgrimage to Jamaica's premier music festival, Red Stripe Reggae Sumfest. The festival kicks off at noon with the traditional beach party at the Cornwall Beach.
This is the first event of the week-long summer fiesta dubbed "The Greatest Reggae Show on Earth", and will set the stage for the next seven days of showcasing the cr?me de la cr?me of musical acts from home and abroad.
After tomorrow (Monday) night's free party, things swing into high gear with Tuesday's Dance Class II at Pier 1 with host Kip Rich, Black Kat, Tony Matterhorn, Sky Juice, dancer John Hype as well as Gunz 'n' Roses Dancers among others.
Wednesday at club Inferno is billed as "Foundation Night". The night will belong to the godparents of reggae such as Alton Ellis, Marcia Griffiths, Ken Boothe, Leroy Sibbles,Gregory Isaacs, Sugar Minott, John Holt and Admiral Bailey among others.
The next three concert nights promise to be nothing but bumper crowds and fireworks with Thursday's Dancehall Night highlighting all who are "shocking out" in the contemporary idiom, from Elephant Man to Marvia Providence. Then it's on to the International Nights on Friday and Saturday, parading world-class entertainers with the little-known Abdel Wright from Jamaica sharing the spotlight with musical luminaries the likes of Lionel Richie and Ludacris as well as his countrymen such as Wayne Wonder, Beres Hammond, TOK, Sizzla, Buju Banton and many others.
