The gay community's rage against Jamaican dancehall artistes intensified on the weekend with a stinging accusation that some of our entertainers who profile an anti-gay stance are actually gay.
Placard toting gays, painted lipstick, eye liner, and nail polish on the images of Elephant Man, Beenie Man, Bounty Killer and Buju Banton during the parade which had an estimated 35,000 strong crowd. On the placards, the deejays were each branded 'Killer Queen'The pictures from the parade streamed on Outrage!'s website, a United Kingdom based group that advocates for gay rights, showed Bounty Killer wearing shades with blue eyeliner just above it, and pink lipstick plastered on his lips.
Buju's eyes had blue eyeliner while his lips were pink as well. Beenie Man and Elephant had similar colour eyes and lips, but their nails were painted with red nail polish. Beside their images were interpretations to their lyrics put in quotation marks.
Quoting from their website, Outrage! says it has received information alleging that "some of the dancehall artistes who sing homophobic songs are themselves secretly gay."
This stinging allegation comes just a week after reports surfaced that Beenie Man was questioned by British authorities about the anti-gay content of his lyrics. This report however could not be confirmed by the Scotland Yard Press Bureau.
Yesterday, THE STAR contacted Beenie Man's management company, Shocking Vibes Ltd. Their boss, Clyde McKenzie said he was just becoming aware of the information and could not immediately comment. Buju Banton declined to comment as well. Up to press time neither Elephant Man or Bounty Killer could be reached for comment.
