TORONTO (CP) - The sights, sounds and smells of the Caribbean will be in Toronto this month for Caribana.

The largest Caribbean festival in North America features the culture of Jamaica, Guyana, the Bahamas, as well as Brazil and others.

The festivities begin July 16 and extend for over two weeks with the can't-miss highlight, the colourful and jubilant day-long masquerade parade, set for July 31 in downtown Toronto.

Based on Trinidad Carnival, Caribana was created in 1967 as a community heritage project for Canada's Centennial Year. It now draws over a million participants each summer.
