Come July 10, Bounty Killer and Baby Cham will share the same stage at the Guinness B's Explosion stage show. Even though there has been bitter blood between them for quite a while now, don't expect to see them taking it to the stage.
Bounty Killer and Baby Cham were close friends in the late 90s. The two performed at shows together and recorded the popular Another Level track on the 'Bug' rhythm, which rocked local charts and was a favourite in the dancehalls. The two split ways shortly after the release of Cham's album Wow...The Story, with some claiming 'personality differences' as the reasons. Their appearances together on shows ceased, as well as their recording together.
Great artistes
Guinness B's Explosion will see some of the top entertainers whose names begin with the letter B on show. Added to Bounty Killer and Baby Cham are Beres Hammond, Bunny Wailer, Buju Banton and Bling Dawg.
Recently, Bounty Killer told THE STAR that although he and Cham are not sparring partners anymore, he is not interested in word dropping, rumour spreading or anything else where Baby Cham is concerned. For him, the show is about great artistes getting together on the same stage.
"I have nothing to say about Baby Cham right now. I am just going to go and enjoy a good show with some big artistes," Bounty Killer noted.
According to him, his interest is more in a couple other big names who will perform on the show and the good vibes that the mixture of old and new artistes will bring.
"For me, Beres and Bunny are the two big men for the show and I feel splendid to be on the same show with them. The audience that will show up for this show is a mature one and not the people who usually gravitate towards a full dancehall show. This means that it will be a show with mixed flavours," he said.
Our decision
In Baby Cham's camp, the mood was the same.Brenda Hamilton, a representative from baby Cham's camp, said that Killer being on the show had no bearing on why they accepted the offer to be there.
"It was neither here or there when we took the decision to accept the show," she explained. "We were approached about it, we looked at the line-up and everything else and we saw that it was a good show... That never influenced our decision, because we know that Cham can hold his own on any stage."
In fact, she noted, "Baby Cham and Bounty were booked for a show in Canada recently, but Killer just did not get to perform. We are not concerned about the differences they have. Cham can hold his own."
