GEORGETOWN, Guyana (AP) - The Finnish ambassador was robbed at gunpoint, a day after he presented his credentials to the government, police said yesterday.

Police arrested a 14 year-old boy for allegedly robbing Ora Meres-Wuori on Sunday as he entered the botanical gardens in Georgetown, the capital.

Police are still looking for a second man, who allegedly pointed the handgun at Meres-Wuori after taking Guyanese $5,000 (US$24).

The ambassador was not injured.

The boy pleaded innocent on Tuesday to armed robbery. He is scheduled to appear in court again next week.
Meres-Wuori is due to leave the South American nation of 700,000, and return to Finland, next week.

Guyana is a former British colony with a population of about 700,000. Last year there were 210 homicides compared to 150 in 2002.

Statistics on robberies this year were not immediately available.
