A female teacher is among six people in police custody who are expected to be charged for the kidnapping of three-year-old Saada Singh.
BY RADHICA SOOKRAJThe 32-year-old teacher and her 22-year-old cousin, with whom she allegedly hatched the conspiracy, spent several hours at San Fernando CID last night.
Two men who surrendered to police, after giving their story to the Express, another man of Vessigny who confessed to transporting Saada to a house in Guapo and a 22-year-old woman who masqueraded as ?Michelle? were also in custody.
Last night, officers were waiting on the Director of Public Prosecutions Geoffrey Henderson to decide on charges of kidnapping, conspiracy to kidnap and unlawful imprisonment.
Police said the teacher and her cousin may face charges of conspiracy, ?Michelle? and the Vessigny man a charge of kidnapping, and the two neighbours of Guapo, charges of unlawful imprisonment.
A file was expected to be delivered to the DPP by 10 pm.
Asst Commissioner of Police (South) Dennis Graham said the DPP had to decide whether some of the suspects would be given the opportunity to become State witnesses.
Should the charges be laid, all six may appear before a San Fernando magistrate today.
As news of the arrests spread through south Trinidad, relatives expressed shock at the teacher?s alleged involvement.
Singh?s father Sean said his daughter would have never gone with the woman who pretended to pick her up from Giselle?s Montessori School on his and his wife Ria?s behalf.
Principal of the pre-school, who did not want her name published, said she was shocked.
?This will never happen again,? the principal said.
Singh was kidnapped around 11 am last Thursday by a woman who gave her name as ?Michelle.?
She was dropped off at a forested area at Murray Trace, Siparia, where she was rescued by a KFC deliveryman.
