The West Indies posted 294/3 wickets and lead Bangladesh by ten runs at stumps on the second day of the second Test in Jamaica.
Resuming after tea on 154/2, it was plain sailing for the West Indies in the third session of the day's play. Ramnaresh Sarwan and Brian Lara continued to wreak havoc with the Bangladeshi bowling lineup, piling on the runs with ease.In the 49th over Lara reached his half-century off 54 balls, after driving Mushfiqur Rahman through the covers for a boundary. A little later he reached his 26th Test century, off just 121 deliveries, with a single to mid-on off Rafique. Sarwan, the more circumspect of the pair, reached the mark soon after Lara by turning a single to leg. His fifth Test century came off 174 balls.
Just after taking his team past their opponent's total, Lara lost his wicket when, trying to cut at Rafique, he got an edge to wicketkeeper Khaled Mashud. It was the latter's second catch of the day.
The skipper departed for an impressive 119 off 147 deliveries. Tino Best was sent in as the night watchman to see off the rest of the day's play. At the close he was undefeated on one, with Sarwan looking good with 106 not out.
Earlier in the day, Devon Smith and Ramnaresh Sarwan resumed after the lunch break with the score on 60 for 1. Batting at a lively pace, the hosts' 100 came up at the end of the 29th over when Sarwan ran Rahman down to the third man boundary for four.
A wicket soon fell, though, when Smith pushed Manjural Islam Rana to mid-on for a quick single. Mohammed Ashraful, with a direct hit to the non-striker's end, found the batsman just short. Smith departed for 44 off 112 deliveries. In the 33rd over, the West Indies were two down for 109
The rest of the day's play was dominated by the 179 run partnership between Sarwan and Lara. The Bangladesh bowlers, although disciplined in giving away relatively few extras, lacked the penetration required to make an impact on the West Indian batting lineup.
