Among those whose lives have been threatened are President George Maxwell Richards, Prime Minister Patrick Manning, Chief Justice Satnarine Sharma, Attorney General John Jeremie and Chief Magistrate Sherman McNicolls.

Meanwhile, the National Security Council, which is chaired by Manning, will meet in an emergency session today to discuss heightened security concerns.

The Express learned that the threats surround two court cases involving the Jamaat's leader, Imam Yasin Abu Bakr, and his close aide, Olive Enyahooma-El.

But Abu Bakr last night denied any knowledge of the alleged plot.

When asked if he was involved in any plot against the officials or had any knowledge of it, Abu Bakr said: "The questioner knows the same as the one who is being questioned."

He also alleged that there were attempts "by people who have recently been brought before the courts on charges" to deflect attention away from their cases by suggesting that the Jamaat was threatening individuals.

"What case I have before the court? I only have a frame-up case," Abu Bakr said.

He also claimed that there was a plot to assassinate him which was reported in this week's Sunday Express.

Abu Bakr, 62, is before McNicolls charged with conspiracy to commit murder while Enyahooma-El, 69, is facing extradition to the United States on weapons charges, including conspiracy to import 60 AK-47 assault rifles and 10 Mach-10 machineguns equipped with silencers.
