West Indies captain Brian Lara is to receive a national honor from the new government of Antigua and Barbuda and will have a lecture series in his name.

Lara is being honored for his world-record innings in the drawn fourth Test against England at the Antigua Recreation Ground when he became the first batsman to score 400 runs in a single Test innings.

The gifted Trinidadian reclaimed his record after Australian Matthew Hayden eclipsed Lara's previous world best with a knock of 380.

Ironically, Lara's stupendous innings came after a string of failures with the bat, including consecutive naughts in the series and was achieved almost 10 years after he set his first world record at the same venue.

Meanwhile, the seven-match One-Day International series between the West Indies and England continues to be dogged by rain as the second, third and fourth games were abandoned after England won the first.

The back-to-back games scheduled for St. Lucia are also under threat because of the weather, and if abandoned it would mean England's 1-0 lead would be enough to ensure that the team could not lose the series.

The seventh and final game is set for Barbados on Wednesday. ...

The West Indies Women's Cricket Federation one-day championship begins in Trinidad and Tobago on Tuesday with host and defending champion T&T playing St. Vincent and the Grenadines in one of three games in the opening round.
