Photo: ROBERTO CODALLOAttiba Salandy, 24, of 4C Jackson Place, East Dry River, lay in the corridor near the Charlotte Street entrance of the mall for about 30 minutes while blood flowed from a bullet wound in his upper left thigh. He was later said to be in satisfactory but critical condition at the Port of Spain General Hospital.

The incident occurred around 2.10 p.m. and scores of people gathered around the wounded man.

According to one witness, who spoke with the Sunday Express on the condition of anonymity, Salandy she claimed was warned by the Commercial Protective Services security guard not to smoke in the mall.

Salandy, she said, cursed the guard and slapped him across his face.

A fight ensued between the two, and Salandy's friend rushed to his assistance.
