Oriel Jean was taken into custody Wednesday night at Pearson airport in Toronto after getting off a flight with his wife from the Dominican Republic, police announced late Thursday.

Jean was interviewed for several hours by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and the Canadian Security Intelligence Service and was detained on suspicion of crimes against humanity.

Police said Jean was carrying $17,000 in cash and had a check for about $300,000 when detained.
