Word from Jamaica is that all charges against Mavado, aka David Brooks have been dropped by Jamaica's Director Of Public Prosecutions. Mavado was charged with illegal possession of a firearm and two counts of shooting with intent related to a shooting incident on July 27, 2007 at Mannings Hill Road in St. Andrew. Mavado was arrested in March of 2008.
The statement was released by Alliance Management, who handles Mavado bookings and management. Paula Llewellyn QC, DPP, this morning signed the letter stating criminal proceedings had been discontinued against the artist. Mavado has had to miss 3 concerts in Trinidad recently as well as the much hyped Best Of The Best concert in Miami."We said from day one that we have all faith in the Jamaican justice system that Mavado will be vindicated in this matter," said his manager Julian Jones-Griffith. Jones Griffith continued, "When Mavado’s US visa was cancelled it was on the grounds that he had an ongoing case before the courts. As this matter is now cleared up we will be approaching the US Embassy at the earliest opportunity to reapply for his work permit, once we have gathered all the necessary documentation from the courts etc."
Hopefully the concert in Trinidad can occur, as well as the artist being able to fulfill bookings in North America and Europe.
