The Trinidad and Tobago High Commissioner to London, Glenda Morean-Phillip has received death threats from a US-based man over a conviction of one his family members when Morean-Phillip was Attorney General of Trinidad and Tobago. It is alleged a group of Jamaicans based in the UK have been dispatched to London to destroy Morean-Phillip.
Official sources in the United Kingdom have refused to comment on the matter, but it has been confirmed that the Diplomatic Police service in the UK have been notified of the situation.Trinidad and Tobago Foreign Affairs Minister Paula Gopee-Scoon and Ashton Forde, Trinidad and Tobago public affairs, cultural and tourism attaché at the embassy have also been alerted. Forde in an interview with the Trinidad Guardian stated, "The man is using a lot of intimidatory tactics and is instilling fear in Morean-Phillip, which is a matter for concern".
The US-based man sent Morean-Phillip a highly disturbing letter on New Years Day threatening her with violence. The individual foolishly left his name and other incriminating evidence. The letter also stated, "The Foreign Ministry, either with little concern for the welfare on Morean-Phillip or somehow foolish enough to believe that the British authorities could provide adequate protection, could have left Morean-Phillip stationed in London. It seems foolhardy not to recall her Excellency to Trinidad and Tobago, at least until more is known about the situation."
Morean-Phillip, is not being recalled and continues to work following her daily routine.
