Various news reports from Trinidad and Tobago, show incidents of randomly reported violence in different areas and sections of Trinidad. Reports include, ballot printers being shot, a COP poster boy being shot dead, and COP supporters being attacked in San Fernando.
In the first incident reported, Marlene Coudray, the COP candidate for the difficult San Fernando West seat has stated that "a team of supporters went into Embacadere, San Fernando, on Thursday to paste posters on poles when they were accosted by the angry men."It is alleged that COP flyers were burned and glue was discarded during the attack. "The COP is not about bacchanal and confusion. After the incident the team came back to the constituency office on Cipero Street. They did not go back in the area, not because we are afraid but because we are not violent people," Marlene Coudray said. The San Fernando Police have concurred that a report was made which they are actively following up on.
In other news, 17 year old Nicholas Palmer was shot dead while distributing flyers for the COP. Palmer was shot several times in the head and body, with the assailant standing over him to ensure he was dead. The shooting took place in the violence rich area of Enterprise, Chaguanas. Another person shot in the incident got off the stretcher in the hospital and walked out with a gunshot wound in his foot.
COP canceled their rally in Enterprise that night and moved it over to Longdenville. Palmer was standing with a group of men at the corner of School and John Streets, when a car pulled up and two men began shooting, one report said. Another man came out of the car and finished off Palmer while the others ran, the report added.
In the last bit of violence related news for the Elections 2007 campaign, printery workers, who print the elections ballots were shot. Hazel Pinto and another worker were shot on Thursday night by unknown gunmen. Hazel Pinto is currently warded at the Port Of Spain General Hospital.
