The niece of Brian Lara, Adanna Lara, 21, was caught up in car robbery which had the potential to escalate to a kidnapping for ransom after the bandits realized that Adanna is related to Brian Lara.

Police found Adanna Lara, 21, in an abandoned house off Tombasome Road near to the end of the Caura Road about six hours after she was snatched.

She was found gagged and locked in a room with her hands tied behind her back. Adanna Lara and a male friend, an army private, were in a parked car on El Dorado Road, under a tree in a dimly lit area near the El Dorado Health Centre around 11.30 p.m. on Saturday. They were ambushed by two gunmen.

One gunman forced the private into the back-seat with him while the second jumped into the driver's seat and drove off. While on Karamath Road, the soldier started fighting with the gunman in the back seat and jumped out of the moving car.

Around 5 a.m. yesterday officers found the car, stripped of most of its parts on Tombasome Road and while searching the area found Adanna Lara in the house. Investigators believe the men were actually prowling the area to steal cars and after realising who Adanna Lara was decided to kidnap her for ransom.
