Supercat, real name, William Maragh, allegedly had a backstage scuffle at the Super Chutney Show, at MOBS II, Chaguaramas, Trinidad with stage manager Wendell Naipaul. The scuffle apparently took place before Supercat came on stage with Supercat alleging racial abuse.
Several police officers were hoping to detain Supercat after his performance and as such assembled stage side. However Supercat went down into the crowd singing, "I am leaving on a jet plane, don't know when I'll be back again", and continued walking straight to a Nissan Almera that whisked the veteran dancehall artiste out of the venue and away from the Police.
Supercat reportedly left the country early Sunday morning. Earlier Super Cat had told his audience Trinidad was blessed with a multi-ethnic society and there should be no room for racism.
"Trinidad reminds me of Zion, African, Indian, White man and Chinese living as one so forget about all that racism talk," he said.
Naipaul could not be reached for a comment yesterday as several calls to his mobile phone went unanswered.
