Media houses in the US, including CNN and MSNBC are reporting that Abdel Nur aka Uncle Abdul has indeed surrendered to police in Trinidad at the West End Police Station in Diamond Vale, Diego Martin today. Details on the surrender are vague at the moment.
Just yesterday, Police Commissioner Trevor Paul pleaded with the Trinidad and Tobago population to be on the lookout for Abdel Nur, a native of Guyana wanted in the recent plot to blow up JFK Airport, in New York. The time of the surrender was stated at 11:30 AM.Abdek Nur arrived in Trinidad on May 20. He stayed at a house in Caparo, but six days ago he relocated to a house on Covigne Road, Diego Martin. Covigne Road intersects with the Diego Martin Main Road, a major artery serving residents of the Western peninsula of the island. Nur surrendered at the nearest police station at the corner of Wendy Fitzwilliam Drive and Diego Martin Main Road.
Extradition hearings began for the two other alleged plotters yesterday, Kareem Ibrahim and Abdul Kadir, with charges being read and attorneys for the two making applications for bail. Prosecution attorneys are opposing bail considering the circumstances of the arrests as well as the severity of the allegations.
"We shall be applying for bail," said Farid Scoon, who represents Kadir and Ibrahim. "We have been instructed to fight the charges and extradition as the law of Trinidad and Tobago permits."
Meanwhile, Yasin Abu Bakr, the leader of the Jamaat Al Muslimeen claimed innocence and absolutely no knowledge or connection in the alleged plot. Abu Bakr along with his Jamaat Al Muslimeen followers staged an unsuccessful coup attempt in 1990 that claimed the lives of 24 people. He later sued the State and was awarded money. Abu Bakr also owes the State money and is also currently in court on other charges.
