The two suspects arrested in Trinidad in connection with the plot to blow up JFK Airport made their first appearances in court. Kareem Ibrahim of Canefarm, Arouca, and Abdul Kadir, a Guyanese with American citizenship as well as a former member of its parliament, are among four suspects in the case. The third man Russell DeFreitas was arrested in New York on Friday. One man, Abdel Nur, remains at large and is believed to be in Trinidad.

Kareem IbrahimKadir and Ibrahim, bearded and clad in loose-fitting traditional Muslim clothing like many of the courtroom spectators, was calm during the 20-minute hearing in which McNicolls told them they faced possible extradition to the United States.

There was a brief question and answer session between Magistrate McNicolls and Ibrahim when McNicolls asked if he (Ibrahim) if he had any other names. He replied, "no". McNicolls then read out two other names for Ibrahim - "Winston Kingston and Amir Kameer" - to which Ibrahim replied, "yeah". "You mean yes sir," shot back McNicolls. "Yeah," said Ibrahim.

Trinidad and Tobago Police Commissioner Trevor Paul wants your help in finding alleged terror suspect Abdel Nur of Guyana who is considered to be armed and dangerous and hiding in Trinidad.

"I am making a special appeal to the people of Trinidad and Tobago to be on the lookout for Abdel Nur," Paul said yesterday. Paul also confirmed that records show Nur arrived in Trinidad on May 20 and acknowledged Nur could be using different names, some unknown to the police at this time.

"Mr Nur is wanted for an alleged terrorist act and as such we in law enforcement consider him to be armed and to be dangerous," Paul said.

Paul said that the offence that Nur and the other three suspects now in custody, Trinidadian Kareem Ibrahim and Guyanese citizens Abdul Kadir and Russell DeFreitas, allegedly committed is a serious one and "therefore, there is an absolute need to locate Mr Nur".

He called on anyone with information on Nur's whereabouts to utilise the 555 hotline, the E-999 phone line and the Crimestoppers tip-line or call the nearest police station. Paul, however, gave little details on what strategies the police are using in its manhunt for Nur apart from saying that "we have enhanced our security, particularly on the lookout for Mr Nur".

In addition, Attorney General John Jeremie has said "we do have some indication there is a connection" between the terror suspects and the Jamaat al Muslimeen led by Yasin Abu Bakr. However, Police Commissioner Trevor Paul said he could not yet confirm any links to either the Jamaat al Muslimeen or Yasin Abu Bakr.
