RnB crooner turned celebrity dancer, Akon, will not be formally charged by police in Trinidad as witnesses are not coming forward to assist with investigations. Akon was criticized over his sexual dance with 15 year old Danah Alleyne at Zen nightclub in Trinidad recently.
TV6 News in Trinidad reported last night that Deputy Commissioner Of Police Winston Cooper said that the investigations have "reached a stalemate as witnesses are not coming forward to support the police".Well, if this is not the lamest excuse I have ever heard by a Deputy Police Commissioner concerning an investigation that has had widespread media coverage not only in Trinidad but around the world. One must wonder what type of witnesses the police are looking for.
In a recent article published here, Johnny Soong, in his statement concerning the issue clearly stated that "We do check persons IDs. Obviously she got through the crack". There Mr. Deputy Commissioner, I think you might be able to charge one business. The owner of Zen has clearly admitted that not so innocent Danah got through the crack. Not sure on the need for witnesses for that one.
Secondly, as far as determining if the "dance" in itself was legal, why do you need witnesses? The Akon video in Trinidad is readily available on many websites including ours! Download the video, blow it up and view it at your own leisure. Mind the video might be a bit disturbing to most readers. The video has already been aired, although not in its entirety on Fox News and CNN to name a few. After a few days of bad publicity even Verizon Wireless got smart and axed their ties with Akon.
Trinidadians and Tobagonans still wonder why crime as a whole is so rampant in Trinidad's society? Police cannot investigate an incident that has had global reach with photographic, video and journalistic evidence much less the scourge of Trinidad, kidnappings! Then again, this whole debate might have been silenced by the dreaded Soca Mafia at work!
